What to do in St Lucia
Beaches
St. Lucia's main attractions are its beautiful sandy beaches and
warm tropical waters. The beaches are kept in pristine condition
and the perfect place to hang out all day. There you can sunbathe
and read a book or enjoy people watching as you laze back on the
sand. There are several beach bars where you can enjoy cocktails at
sunset and stay to enjoy a delicious dinner if you so choose.
Scuba Diving
The scuba diving in St. Lucia is legendary. The warm tropical
waters, crystal clear visibility and abundance of corals and marine
life make diving here a superb experience. There are several
reputable dive centers on the island. You can hire equipment from
them or bring along your own. The dive rates generally include
diving cylinders, air fills and weight belts. You will need to take
proof of your diver certification with you. If you are not yet
qualified, St Lucia provides the ideal marine environment in which
to learn to scuba dive. Many of the dive centers are registered
dive schools and can provide you with a certification course during
your stay.
Sailing
For those that prefer to stay on top of the water, there are many
other water sport activities to keep you occupied. Sailing cruises
will take you out to enjoy the ocean. Often, they will anchor off a
remote beach where you can swim ashore and enjoy a picnic lunch.
Other excursions will take you to shallow reefs where you can
snorkel and enjoy seeing colorful corals and reef fish. Deep sea
fishing charters are readily available and include all equipment
required. Windsurfs are available for rent from many of the
beachfronts. Advanced sailors will want to head to the waves off
Cas en Bas and Vieux Fort. Novices will want to stick to the calmer
waters off the west coast until they become more accomplished.
Waterskiing and parasailing are available at many of the resorts.
There is a very large new marina at Rodney Bay and Marigot bay also
has very good facilities.
Island Interior
If you want to explore the island interior, you can choose from
a variety of excursions. Those who are energetic can enjoy a
thrilling mountain bike ride. There are guided tours available for
both novice and advanced riders. An alternate mode of transport is
to explore on horseback. Enjoy a variety of trail or beach rides on
well-trained horses. There are numerous hiking trails on the island
that invite exploration. There are also ATV trails which take you
through the lush countryside.
